ABSTRACT The antimicrobial properties of plants have been investigated by a number of researcher’s world wide, especially in Latin America. More studies pertaining to the use of plants as therapeutic agents should be emphasized, especially those related to the control of antibiotic resistant microbes. The objective of this research was to evaluate the potential of plant extracts and phytochemicals on standard microorganism strains as well as multi-drug resistant bacteria, which were isolated from hospitals. The use of herbs and medicinal plants as the first medicines is a universal phenomenon. Every culture on earth, through written or oral tradition, has relied on the vast variety of natural chemistry found in healing plants for their therapeutic properties. There are also hydroxylated phenolic substances but occur as a C6-C3 unit linked to an aromatic ring. Since they are known to be synthesized by plants in response to microbial infection, it should not be surprising that they have been found in vitro to be effective antimicrobial substances against a wide array of microorganisms. Tannin is a general descriptive name for a group of polymeric phenolic substances capable of tanning leather or precipitating gelatin from solution, a property known as astringency. The fragrance of plants is carried in the so called quinta essential, or essential oil fraction. Some of the medicinal plant parts are collected and prepare solvent and aqueous extracts. To this extracts check the antimicrobial properties against some of the gram positive and Gram negative bacteria’s. After that phytochemical analysis of each extract was done. For identification of proteins SDS-PAGE is performed. Amino acids are detected by Paper chromatography.
