It is the first paper in which a discovery of a new type of environmental hazards from chemical pollutants was made: namely, the hazards of a decrease in a vital function of healthy aquatic ecosystems which maintain the proper level of cleanliness (purity) of water, and improve water quality. The discovery is a contribution to understanding the ecosystem service and mechanism in improving water quality. This is helpful to develop innovative ecobiotechnology to treat polluted water. New insight into natural mechanisms of ecological biotechnology that remediate aquatic ecosystems and improves water quality.
