Explanation of the method that was used in a series of papers on aquatic ecology.

The series of articles was published on aquatic ecology [1-9].
In these publications, the results of experiments on bivalve mollusks were presented. The function of the mollusks was studied, namely, water filtration.
new facts were discovered. These new facts: inhibitory effects of various synthetic surfactants and detergents on water filtration by aquatic mollusks. In other words, the author of these experiments and publications, Dr. S.A. Ostroumov (Moscow University) discovered that synthetic surfactants and detergents decreased the filtration rate.
One of details of his method needs explanation. To measure the filtration rate by mollusks, he added a suspension of organic particles to the system: aquatic medium with mollusks. Many experiments reported in the scientific literature by various authors demonstrated that bivalve mollusks can filter suspension of almost all types of particles, of almost any nature. Bivalves filter out any suspension and remove all type of particles from water.
In his experiments in the papers [2-9], the author used the suspension of cells of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. His experiments demonstrated that bivalves removed the particles (cells) of this type from water with high efficiency. His experiments showed that the kinetics of the removal of the cells of S. cerevisiae was the same as the kinetics of the removal of cells of phytoplankton. This method proved to be very convenient and productive.
Moreover, he published a paper [1] in which the suspension of phytoplankton was studied as the model of a suspension of particles. He studied the removal of the cells of phytoplankton from aquatic medium as a result of water filtration by marine mussels Mytilus. The results of this research project were in full agreement with the results of the other experiments where the suspension of cells of S. cerevisiae was used as a model of the suspension to be filtered by bivalves. As a matter of facts, the paper [1] gave a full support to the results and conclusion of the other papers [2-9] of this series.
