Аннотация Abstract The paper focuses on the emotive origin of neologisms in the Russian and English languages. The ways new words being coined are different, but much attention is paid to their origin as consequences of progress and development of society. A new methodology of inventing new words, which combines cognitive, emotive, and informative approaches, is demonstrated here. Taking into account that lexical structure encodes the way we comprehend the world around us, a close relationship between lexicalization of concepts and knowledge in its broad sense is highlighted in the paper.
