The Wellcome Trust Centre for Stem Cell Research provides outstanding scientists with the opportunity and resources to undertake ground-breaking research into the fundamental properties of mammalian stem cells.
Transcriptome circuitry and dynamics in embryonic stem cells
Applications are invited for a computational biologist to join the research team of Prof. Austin Smith where you will be responsible for the design, data processing and integrated analysis of RNA-seq and ChIP-seq experiments in mouse embryonic stem cells. These studies will be carried out in close collaboration with the group of Paul Bertone at the European Bioinformatics Institute. You will also provide bioinformatics support for related projects in the Smith laboratory, including single cell transcriptome studies.
Candidates will have a strong background in computation and current knowledge of eukaryotic genomics. Expertise in statistical methods is essential. Experience with numerical computing software and Unix scripting are required. Applicants should be fluent in least one high-level programming language. Experience with analysis of high-throughput sequencing data is desirable, as is knowledge of heterogeneous data integration and programmatic database usage.
Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. Bioinformatics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or Biochemistry/Molecular Biology with a computational component). The post holder will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to engage productively with experimental biologists. Experience in stem cell biology is not necessary.
The post is funded by the BBSRC.
