A Post-doctoral Research Associate is required to start in June 2011 for a period of up to 3 years. The successful applicant will join a world-class team of international researchers studying skeletal development and disease in the Roehl laboratory. The project utilizes zebrafish as a model organism but involves a close collaboration with clinical scientists the Hogendoorn laboratory (Leiden University) to analyse human tumour samples. The post is funded by a Cancer Research UK grant that aims to elucidate the role of proteoglycans and WNT signalling during bone tumour formation. One of the central aims of the project is to utilize the cre/lox system to perform precise genetic manipulations and to follow the results in vivo. This system will provide a powerful new tool to track cell behaviour and cell fate choices at the single cell level. Besides advanced genetic techniques, the project will also involve time-lapse photography and cutting-edge microscopy methods. The post-holder will also benefit from several ongoing collaborations which involve skeletal stem cells, cancer biology and regeneration. Any applicant should have experience with advanced molecular biology and imaging techniques, developmental genetics and cell signalling pathways.

You will have a PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant biological discipline and experience in molecular biology methods. Experience in working with zebrafish would also be an advantage.

This post is fixed-term and is available from 1st June 2011 and an end date of 31st March 2014 with a possible 3 month extension thereafter, subject to funding.
Application Deadline: 13 April 2011
