Job Description

Novartis has an "industry leading" use of Modeling and Simulation as a quantitative science to improve knowledge integration and understanding in drug discivery and development. Novartis Pharma opens a dedicated Modeling and Simulation Group in Russia and apens a contest for the position of Modeling & Simulation Translational Modeler.The Translational Modeler drives innovative drug development at Novartis by expert-level M&S input to planning and interpretation of pre-clinical / clinical projects and/or clinical trials; by fos-tering the implementation of Model Based Drug Development (MBDD) in close collaboration with R&D partners; by consulting and mentoring within M&S and with R&D partners; and by influen-cing the external environment as a thought leader.

Major Activities:

1.In development planning activities, ensure coordinated, integrated M&S strategy during the life of the project. Lead the planning and implementation of innovative components with respect to M&S. Support decision making on trials and/or pre-clinical or clinical projects. Define appropriate M&S strategies for global registration.
2.Prepare and deliver presentations to senior management on general and specific use of M&S for Model Based Drug Development.
3.Quickly step in and assume leadership when needed, and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
4.Ensure effective interaction and coordination between key partners and the M&S organi-zation. Take a leadership role and integrate work among appropriate partners from other line functions, e.g., NIBR, Translational Sciences, Development Franchise, Business Units. Key partners include Global Program Heads, Global Program Medical Directors, Project Team Leaders, Translation Medicine Experts, Business Franchise Heads, Clinical Science Unit Heads.
5.Advise development teams in the effective use of Model Based Drug Development; serve as a M&S consultant to development teams and a communication interface between de-velopment teams and M&S teams.
6.Through advocacy and innovation, creatively foster a culture at Novartis that embraces M&S, and the implementation of Model Based Drug Development.
7.Take leadership in supporting and defending innovative strategies and their interpretations at Health Authority Meetings.
8.Drive the acceptance of state of the art M&S methods in pre-clinical and/or clinical projects, from pre-clinical / clinical partners, review and decision boards, and manage-ment. Advise R&D management on M&S related to high level decision making.
9.Initiate and lead training and study sessions on Model Based Drug Development / M&S within the M&S organization and in other line functions.

Minimum requirements

1.Education : Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, pharmacology, biology, or a modeling-related field (or equivalent PhD / MD degree). 2.Fluent English and Russian (oral and written)
Ideally 10 years of experience in positions with increasing relevant responsibilities.
3.Substantial experience (usually 7 years) in applying, innovating, and mentoring M&S in pre-clinical and/or clinical drug development. Experience in leadership of decision-making teams.
4.Expert knowledge in the application M&S to Drug Development.
5.Solid knowledge of drug development and HA guidelines relevant to all areas of M&S in pre-clinical and/or clinical drug development.
6.Medical/pharmacological knowledge of several therapeutic areas and in-depth knowledge of others.
7.Demonstrated leadership ability in projects.
8.Excellent communication and presentation skills.
9.Ability to mentor modelers.
10.Driving and stimulating innovation throughout the Development organization.
11.Outstanding problem solving skills.
12.Working knowledge of mathematical modeling methods including: dynamical systems (ODE, PDE), linear and nonlinear regression, generalized linear models, linear and nonlinear mixed-effects models, population pharmacokinetic / pharmacodynamic models, Bayesian statistics, survival analysis, meta-analysis, decision analysis, stochastic simulation, clinical trial design.
Working knowledge scientific computing environments and languages including: R, S/S-plus, SAS, Matlab, Mathematica, Nonmem, a high-level object oriented programming language (such as C++).
