The Department of Geography and Geology, University of Copenhagen has an opening for a PhD fellow in (socio-economic) development geography.
The project: The PhD fellow will carry out research within the project “Agricultural Growth and Poverty Pockets” with field studies in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. The overall objective of the project is to provide a better understanding of the processes that create and shape geographically concentrated areas (´pockets´) of poverty in regions marked by agricultural growth and diversification. The PhD project will deal with the impact of manufacturing industries on agricultural growth and poverty, in particular focusing on the relationship between the agricultural labour market and the moving-out of labour-intensive industries (clothing, footwear, and electronics) from Ho Chi Minh City to local industrial zones in the Mekong Delta.
Qualifications: Candidates should hold a MSc degree in Human Geography or Development Studies. We expect that the candidate will publish in international peer?reviewed journals, write a PhD thesis within the project duration of three years and assist in some teaching within the Department. Qualified candidates can speak and write in English.
Terms of employment: We offer a full-time PhD position for three years with the specific intention that it results in a PhD at the end of these three years. It is a prerequisite for the appointment as a Ph.D.-fellow, that the person concerned can be registered as a PhD-fellow according to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Executive Order no 18 of 14. January 2008. Information about the PhD programs at the Faculty of Science can be found at http://www.science.ku.dk/phd/.<
