TWO “Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher” (PhD) open positions in Visual Optics at the “Laboratorio de Optica, Universidad de Murcia”, Murcia, Spain.

We invite applications for TWO - three year Early Stage Researcher (PhD student) positions being part of the Marie Curie Initial Training Network ‘Optical and Adaptational Limits of Vision” (OpAL) in Murcia, Spain. The positions are funded by the European Commission in the framework of the FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Network ‘OpAL’. The OpAL projects aim at training young scientists at the interface of physics and biology, with focus on optical issues, tackling the limits of visual performance.

The projects will address different problems on how the optical properties of the eye are related to vision.

Employment as a PhD student has a highly competitive salary. The positions includes allowances for mobility, travel and career exploration as well as funds to participate in training activities of the OpAL network and in (international) conferences.

The “Laboratorio de Optica de la Universidad de Murcia” (LO.UM) is one of the world leaders research groups in visual optics and biomedical applications of Adaptive Optics. The lab is based in a new building and equipped with state of the art technology for advanced experiments: deformable mirrors, spatial light modulators, femtosecond lasers… This provides an excellent training opportunity for PhD students. Requirements:
Candidates should have a Master degree or equivalent background in Physics, Optics, Electrical engineering or a related topic. Being fluent in Spanish is not a requirement. The salary of the student will be in accordance with EU and University of Murcia rates.
The EU has strict eligibility criteria for Early Stage Researchers: Candidates :
- must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the country of the host institution for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment.
- should not possess a PhD
- should have less than 4 years of research experience. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which formally entitles them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided.
