Вакансии » Postdoctoral Position in Laser-cooled Atoms to Produce a Mono-energetic Electrons Source

Employer: Physics, Laboratoire Aime Cotton (CNRS)
Location: Orsay (Paris), France

Description:
The goal of this 1.5 years post-doctoral position is to produce a novel source of bright electrons and to apply it to nanoscience experiments. The main idea is to laser cool a continuous intense neutral atomic beam issued from a 2-D cesium Magneto-Optical Trap, currently working in the lab, excite the atoms in very high excited states (so called Rydberg states) that are finally field ionized. The so formed very monoenergetic ion and electron beams will have unique characteristic and are ought to have a huge impact on a wealth of research and application domains. The setup will be first tested at Laboratoire Aimé Cotton (LAC) where the laser cooling and ionization will be. As soon as simple tests are achieved (early 2012), the apparatus shall be moved to Institut des Sciences Moléculaires d’Orsay (ISMO) to use the exclusive focusing capability targeted by our source (1 nA current focused at nanometer scale with less than 10meV energy resolution) to realize an Electron Controlled Chemical Lithography (ECCL) experiment.

The ideal candidate should have skills in atom-laser interaction (laser cooling, Rydberg physics or laser spectroscopy) and possibly in ion or electron lithography, Know-how of ion/electron optics and related simulation programs (SIMION, COMSOL) is also welcome.

This post-doc would be realized in the framework of the COLDBEAMS (ultra-COLD gas for the production of a Bright Electron And Monochromatic ion Source) Marie Curie Industry-Academia Partnerships and Pathways project (FP7-PEOPLE-IAPP). The candidate will then have strong contact with the Dipartimento di Fisica of the Università di Pisa (UNIPI) and with the SME, Orsay Physics (France), one of the leading companies in realization and commercialization of Focused Ion Beams (FIB).

The salary will be calculated according to UE category standards. A mobility allowance is included.
