We are a research institute, based in Frankfurt am Main, and are part of the scientific-technical society Dechema e.V..
Innovative materials solutions for use at high temperatures are an important field of research at the institute.
A new research project is started in this area, focusing on the investigation of chromium-silicon alloys with respect to their microstructure and oxidation properties for a potential use in aircraft and stationary gas turbines beyond the maximum temperature range of nickel-based alloys. Within this project a PhD position is available from January 2012 for 29 months.
PhD student material science / metallurgy
In this project you work as part of an international and interdisciplinary team of materials scientists, physicists, chemists and engineers. The work in this team requires good English language skills and the willingness to learn German as well as commitment, teamwork and enthusiasm for independent scientific and experimental work. The project includes the possibility to write a PhD thesis on the research, therefore a European master’s degree or equivalent is required. If you already own a PhD, please do not apply.

The salary is based on the collective agreements in the chemical industry for a full-time position.
