HySA Systems is a Center of Competence for Technology Validation and Systems Integration on hydrogen and fuel cell technology (HFCT), located at the South African Institute for Advanced Materials Chemistry (SAIAMC), University of the Western Cape (UWC). HySA Systems is part of a long-term (15-year) Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies (HFCT) Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) strategy, which officially was launched in September 2008 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) in South Africa.
The main objective with HySA Systems is to perform technology validation and system integration in four key HFCT-programmes, viz. (1) Combined Heat & Power, (2) Portable Power, (3) Hydrogen-fuelled Vehicles and (4) Lithium-ion Battery and Super Capacitor. One of the focus areas for HySA systems is to develop MEAs and stacks for high temperature PEMFCs.
Position:
Postdoctoral position in PEM fuel cells, focusing on the development of membrane electrode assemblies for high temperature (120oC to 180oC) operation.
Requirements:
PhD in the field of physical chemistry/electrochemistry/chemical engineering. A strong background and hands-on experience in the field of fuel cells, particularly on MEA development is necessary. Experience in stack development and testing is desirable.
We are seeking highly motivated individuals who can work both independently and as a team. Candidates will be working in a multidisciplinary group with experience in modeling, MEA development, electrocatalysis, stack development and system integration. The candidate will also assist in the supervision of research students to PhD level.
A tax free bursary of ZAR 240 000 (USD 33 000 approx) per annum is offered for a period of 12 months, which is renewable for a total of three years.
