Аннотация The paper addresses the question how acoustical characteristics of children's vocalizations are evaluated in adult's perception system. Prespeech vocalizations of a Russian infant were used in the auditory experiment with Russian and Finnish subjects involved. The results show that acoustic picture explains some facts in adult's perception with no regards to their native language, and that several language-specific features are present in prelinguistic production of a child
